Statistics show that although many physicians wholeheartedly embraced the initial push during the early 2000’s towards digitizing patient records, the results in many cases left much to be desired.

Common complaints among early adopters were that hardcoded systems used outdated windows type screens which were unrecognizable to the end-user and therefore required lengthy and often excessive training sessions. Worst of all, even with all that training, many systems, including some considered to be “best of breed systems”, earned a reputation for slowing down the physician, disrupting existing workflows and consequently reducing patient throughput. In fact, some experts claim that as much as 50% of all attempted Electronic Medical Record software deployments in recent years have ended in failure.

Roughly 30% failed during the implementation process while another 20% is believed to have failed within 6 months of the Go-Live date. When we set out to develop our first generation Electronic Health Record system Cyramed we did so with the intention to produce an EHR software package that would directly address these shortcomings.

Cyramed would internalize existing tried and true workflows instead of disrupting them. It would also allow a high level of customization performed by our in-house technicians therefore avoiding unnecessarily burdening the end-user with such tasks. In addition, we realized that a very important fact was not being adequately addressed by any of the other systems. It was the fact that none of the processes and screens in digital systems looked or acted like the paper-based systems they replaced. Staff literally had to learn how to perform their jobs all over again in order to be able to suit new EMR systems. Recognizing this as a major flaw in most if not all other systems, we set out to create an EMR that would allow data entry through custom designed digital clinical forms that would visually duplicate the look and feel of existing paper records, while preserving and embedding existing workflows into the system.

As a result, over the years Cyramed has enjoyed tremendous success in a wide variety of practices, multi-specialty surgery centers and even large surgical hospitals. We attribute our 100% success rate in implementing Cyramed and its 96% client retention rate to the radically different approach to the idea of digitized records. Fast forward to today. Most other Electronic Health Record systems still do away with the same antiquated approach, dated look and feel, and doctors still experience many of same difficulties when implementing such systems.
